Blue Wasabi – Gilbert, AZ

It was a beautiful day in Arizona today and Brian and I ventured to San Tan Village – one of our favourite ourdoor malls to wander through on a sunny day!   We’ve driven past the Blue Wasabi Sushi and Martini Bar a few times and decided to give it a try – we had an outdoor seat (in the sunshine) and a really great server, Heather (I really wanted to get her picture to put in my blog but since I’m new at this I was a bit shy – yes, me – shy, I know I can hear you all now!).  I’ll share more about how Heather handled a ‘situation’ later but for now, have a peek at what we had for lunch!

Started with a california roll and some edamame – probably one of the best california rolls we’ve had so far!

The wasabi is really blue – mixed with my soy sauce it was a kind of seaweed colour – not my favourite but I asked Heather and they do serve just regular green wasabi – you have to ask for it – I’ll be sure to do that next time!

I’m a little more adventurous with my food choices – I had the Marilyn Monroll – it was so pretty!  More on the sashimi side that the sushi side it included tuna, yellowtail, salmon, spicy tuna, crab, avacado and cucumber and pink soy paper – my first encounter with this – it was beautiful!ellowtail,

And for my meat and potatoes guy – the buddha burgers (there were two mini burgers) and some sweet potatoe fries – he loves these so much – normally it comes with a mix of sweet potatoe and yukon gold but they substituted full on SP for him, no problem – oh, and they were good too – well, I had to try…

Really impressed with the way that Heather handled a potentially icky situation – two ladies next too us were enjoying some drinks on the patio as well and dispite the ‘no smoking’ signs posted, one of them decided to light up – when I mentioned it (because it is just so disgusting) Heather said she’d have someone speak to them – quickly another server appeared and casually walked the length of the patio, ‘noticed’ the smoker and asked her to put it out.  She never knew it was us that mentioned it – but man, people are funny – it’s like…if I hold the cigarette over the edge of the fence that separates the restaurant from the patio then techically i’m not smoking ‘in the restaurant’.

Overall a fantastic experience – would go back in a second and would recommend it others – hey, I guess I just did!

Living in bliss,

Carolyne
